Degree बदलना Transformation of Degrees

अर्थ वही रहे, सिर्फ़ ढाँचा बदले:
Superlative (the + -est / most) ⇄ Comparative (-er / more … than any other + singular · than most other + plural) ⇄ Positive (No other … so / as … as · Very few … so / as … as)
स्थितिSuperlativeComparativePositive
सबसे बड़ा (एक ही)Ram is the tallest boy in the class.Ram is taller than any other boy in the class. No other boy in the class is as tall as Ram.
"one of the"Mumbai is one of the largest cities in India.Mumbai is larger than most other cities in India.Very few cities in India are as large as Mumbai.

दो व्यक्तियों / चीज़ों की तुलना (Two-person reversal)

ComparativePositive — "not so / not as … as"उल्टा Comparative (विपरीत शब्द)
Ram is taller than Shyam.Shyam is not so tall as Ram.Shyam is shorter than Ram.
Iron is more useful than gold.Gold is not so useful as iron.Gold is less useful than iron.
Sohan is cleverer than Mohan.Mohan is not as clever as Sohan.Mohan is less clever than Sohan.
Positive (बराबरी) से Comparative: Ram is as tall as Shyam. → Shyam is not taller than Ram.
"not so … as" से Comparative: Delhi is not so cold as Shimla. → Shimla is colder than Delhi.
the -est (एक ही सबसे बड़ा) → No other + singular + is · one of the → Very few + plural + are · हाँ वाले वाक्य में as … as, नहीं वाले में not so / not as … as
तुलना समान चीज़ों में हो — singular के लिए that of, plural के लिए those of:
✗ The climate of Shimla is better than Delhi. → ✓ … than that of Delhi. · ✗ The streets of Delhi are wider than Agra. → ✓ … than those of Agra.
than I / than me: औपचारिक नियम — He is taller than I (am). बोलचाल में "than me" भी सही माना जाता है, इसलिए error spotting में "than me" को गलती तभी चुनें जब वाक्य में कोई और स्पष्ट गलती न हो।
"Change into positive degree: Gold is the most precious metal" (No other metal is so precious as gold) · "Change into comparative: Kalidasa is one of the greatest poets of India" (greater than most other poets) · "Ram is taller than Shyam — choose the positive form" (Shyam is not so tall as Ram) · "The houses of the rich are bigger than ___ of the poor" (those) · "Spot the error: His style is different than mine"
